Accessibility

We are committed to making this website accessible for all our users. If you have any problems using the site, please let us know using the Contact page.

We have developed the site according to the conventions of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), using the guidance provided by the RNIB's Web Access Centre.

Colour Contrast

The colours used in this site have been analysed using the Contrast Analyser tool provided by the Web Accessibility Tools Consortium to confirm that they should provide clear contrast for all users.

'Skip to Content' links are provided at the start of each page. These allow users of reader software, and those accessing the site using keyboard only to skip the navigation menus at the top of each page and go directly to the page content. 'Skip to Content' links will become visible when you first press the Tab key on a page.

Please note that there is a problem with using the 'Skip to Content' links in the Google Chrome browser when using keyboard tabbing. This causes the tab focus to remain within the navigation menu after the link is activated. For this reason, you may want to consider using a browser other than Chrome if you are using keyboard only to access this site.

Javascript

Wherever Javascript is used in this site, equivalent functionality is provided automatically for users whose browsers do not have Javascript enabled.

CSS

This website is fully accessibile with CSS styling switched off in the browser.

You can switch off styling (text colours, fonts, backgrounds etc) in your browser as follows:

Firefox

Internet Explorer

Google Chrome

Google Chrome does not natively support disabling all styles, so you may want to use a different browser if you would like to disable CSS styling.

Safari

Text Size

This site will conform to the text size you set in your browser.

You can change the text size in your browser as follows:

Firefox

Internet Explorer

Google Chrome

Safari

Image Descriptions

You can find links to image descriptions under the main mural images. For other images, you can make image descriptions ('alt text') visible as follows:

Firefox

This will cause images' descriptions to be displayed instead of the images themselves, from the next time you load a page. You can revert the change by clicking 'Load images automatically' again to select the checkbox.

Internet Explorer

This will cause images' descriptions to be displayed instead of the images themselves, from the next time you load a page. You can revert the change by clicking 'Show pictures' again to select the checkbox.

Google Chrome

Please note that there is a bug in both the Chrome and Safari browsers which means that alt text is usually not visible when 'Show images' is disabled. As a result you may wish to use a different browser if you want to make alt text visible. If you still want to stop images from being shown in Chrome the technique is as follows:

To revert the change, re-check 'Show all images (recommended)'.

Safari

Please note that there is a bug in both the Chrome and Safari browsers which means that alt text is usually not visible when 'Show images' is disabled. As a result you may wish to use a different browser if you want to make alt text visible. If you still want to stop images from being shown in Safari the technique is as follows:

To revert the change, re-check 'Display images'.
